AIRSTAHL screw compressor comparison - K, S, M and L series side by side

Four series, one shared base. The tables to compare our screw compressors at a glance and choose the right one.

All our screw compressors share the same base: a lubricated, air-cooled screw element, managed by an electronic controller with a display showing pressure, temperature, operating hours and the service reminder. What changes from one series to the next is what is fitted around the compressor: nothing at all, an air receiver and a dryer, wheels, or precision filtration at 16 bar.

This article brings all the specifications together in tables, series by series, using the values from our data sheets. To compare two to four models of your choice line by line, you can also use the compressor comparison tool.

The four series at a glance

SeriesWhat is suppliedPower ratingsPressureWho it is for
S seriesThe screw compressor on its own5.5 to 22 kW8 to 13 bar depending on the modelReplacing a machine, reinforcing an existing network, building your own installation
K seriesCompressor, air receiver, refrigerated dryer and filtration on one frame7.5 to 15 kW8, 10 or 13 bar, your choiceNew installation, workshops that want dry air without assembling anything
M seriesCompressor on a tank and on wheels7.5 and 22 kW10 or 12.5 barAir needed in several places, job sites, machine fleets
L series16 bar compressor, 16 bar tank, dryer and precision filtration11 to 22 kW8 to 16 barLaser cutting machines

S series - the screw compressor on its own

The S series is supplied without air receiver or dryer. All its models have a permanent magnet motor with direct drive; from 5.5 to 15 kW, they start via a variable frequency drive.

S 555.5 kW8 bar0.6 m³/min65 to 68 ± 2 dB(A)750 × 550 × 750 mm98 kgG 1/2"

S 220 PM22 kW10 bar3.2 m³/min at 10 bar68 to 72 ± 2 dB(A)1100 × 850 × 1000 mm310 kgG 1"

The S 220 PM is the industrial machine of the range: at 22 kW, it delivers 3.8 m³/min at 7 bar, 3.6 m³/min at 8 bar, 3.2 m³/min at 10 bar and 2.9 m³/min at 12.5 bar.

K series - the 4-in-1, ready to connect

On the K series, the air receiver, refrigerated dryer and filtration are mounted on the same frame as the compressor. The K 110 and K 150 use the same compressor as the S 110 and S 150.

K 15015 kW2.2 m³/min340 L68 to 72 ± 2 dB(A)1800 × 730 × 1530 mm400 kgG 3/4"

All three models can be ordered in 8, 10 or 13 bar, and in three colour schemes: blue, black and yellow, or black and red.

Flow according to the chosen pressure

On the S and K series, the pressure is chosen when ordering. The higher the pressure, the lower the flow: it is the same machine compressing the air harder. Here are the values from our data sheets, identical for both series at the same power rating.

PowerModelsAt 8 barAt 10 barAt 13 bar
7.5 kWS 75, K 751.1 m³/min0.95 m³/min0.8 m³/min
11 kWS 110, K 1101.7 m³/min1.4 m³/min1.1 m³/min
15 kWS 150, K 1502.2 m³/min2.0 m³/min1.6 m³/min

So choose the pressure your tools actually need, not the highest one available. Our article on calculating your compressor pressure explains how.

M series - the screw compressor on wheels

ModelPowerPressureFlowTankNoise levelDimensions (L × W × H)Weight
M 757.5 kW10 bar1.0 m³/min at 10 bar180 L68 to 72 ± 2 dB(A)1350 × 500 × 1150 mm240 kg

The M 75 has inverter start; the M 220 uses direct start, with coupling drive.

L series - 16 bar and filtered air for laser cutting

ModelPowerPressureFlowTankDimensions (L × W × H)Weight
L 11011 kW8 to 16 bar0.8 m³/min340 L, 16 bar1750 × 700 × 1610 mm480 kg

L 22022 kW8 to 16 bar1.8 m³/min500 L, 16 bar1900 × 900 × 1710 mm750 kg

All three models include a refrigerated dryer (dew point 3 to 10 °C) and precision filtration (particles 0.01 µm, oil 0.001 ppm). Their noise level is 72 ± 3 dB(A). Everything is covered in detail in our article on the compressor for laser cutting.

How to choose from these tables

  1. Start with the flow. Add up the consumption of the tools used at the same time and keep a margin. The configurator does the calculation for you.
  2. Set the pressure. It depends on the most demanding tool, not on a wish to have something in reserve.
  3. Choose the series. Existing network or plant room: S series. New installation and dry air without assembly: K series. Air needed in several places: M series. Laser cutting: L series.
