Compressor for wineries
Screw compressor for wineries and wine estates: pneumatic presses, bottling lines, cleaning. Dry, filtered air, plus rental to cover the harvest peak.
In a winery, compressed air does most of its work at harvest time. It inflates the membrane of pneumatic presses, drives the cylinders and valves on the bottling line, powers the corkers, cappers and labellers, and is used to blow off and clean equipment. For the rest of the year, demand drops: a few tools, some blow-off, cleaning tanks and hoses.
What matters in a winery
- Dry, filtered air. On a bottling line, air can touch the bottle, the closure or equipment in contact with the wine. It must carry no water, particles or oil. Our compressors are oil-lubricated, so a dryer and filtration matched to each point of use are essential.
- The harvest peak. For a few weeks, presses and the bottling line run at the same time, sometimes day and night. The compressor has to hold that pace without overheating.
- The right room. Cellars are often cool and damp. Install the compressor in a dry, ventilated room and keep an eye on the condensate drain.
- Availability. A breakdown in the middle of harvest holds up the whole crop. Keep consumables on hand and plan a backup.
Our advice: a 4-in-1 screw compressor
For an estate that presses and bottles on site, the K series combines the screw compressor, air receiver, refrigerated dryer and filtration on a single frame. The Screw compressor 7.5 kW 4-in-1 suits a mid-sized winery with one press and a small bottling line. The Screw compressor 11 kW 4-in-1 takes over when several presses or a faster line run at the same time. To estimate your real air demand, check your machines' data sheets or follow our guide to choosing compressor power.
Where air touches the product or the packaging, set the required air quality class with your line supplier and your quality manager. Our guide to air quality under ISO 8573-1 explains how to read it.
For a small estate that only uses air for blow-off and tools, the Piston compressor 7.5 kW remains a simple solution.
Harvest: rental as a top-up
There is no point sizing your installation for a few weeks a year. Keep a compressor matched to your everyday needs and add a rental compressor for the harvest: screw compressors from 5.5 to 37 kW, available within 24 hours anywhere in France, maintenance included, no commitment. The same option covers you if your own machine breaks down mid-harvest.
Service before the harvest
Carry out maintenance before the harvest, not during it: filters, oil, air/oil separator and condensate drain. AIRSTAHL service kits are in stock in France and parts remain available for 15 years.
Frequently asked questions — Winemaking
Which compressor do I need for a pneumatic wine press?
It depends on the number of presses and on what runs at the same time during harvest, especially the bottling line. Check the air consumption given by the manufacturer of each machine and add up those that run together, with a margin. For a mid-sized winery, a 4-in-1 screw compressor from the K series, with built-in air receiver, dryer and filtration, is a practical starting point.
Does bottling require a specific air quality?
Yes. On the bottling line, air can touch the bottle, the closure or equipment in contact with the wine: it must be dry and filtered, free of water, particles and oil. As AIRSTAHL compressors are oil-lubricated, plan a dryer and filtration matched to the point of use. The target quality class is set with your line supplier, according to ISO 8573-1.
Should I buy or rent a compressor for the harvest?
The two work well together. Buy a compressor sized for your everyday needs and rent extra capacity for the harvest peak. AIRSTAHL rental covers screw compressors from 5.5 to 37 kW, available within 24 hours anywhere in France, maintenance included and with no commitment. It also serves as a backup if your machine breaks down during harvest.
