Compressor for tyre centres

Screw compressor for tyre centres - impact wrenches, tyre changers, wheel balancers, car and truck tyre inflation, seasonal winter and summer tyre peaks.

In a tyre centre, compressed air does not just power the odd tool: it drives the whole fitting process. Impact wrenches to take wheels off and refit them, tyre changers, wheel balancers, inflation of car and truck tyres, blow guns to clean the rims. Often on several bays at once.

How it differs from a general garage

A garage uses air in bursts, job by job. A tyre centre fits tyre after tyre, and the real challenge is the seasonal peak. When customers switch to winter tyres, and again when they switch back to summer tyres, bookings run back to back for several weeks and every bay works without a break.

A compressor sized for the rest of the year then runs flat out: pressure drops, impact wrenches lose torque, tyre changers slow down and the team waits for the machine. For everyday mechanical work, see our page on compressors for garages.

Size for your busiest week

  • Count the bays working at the same time at the height of the season, not on average: impact wrenches, tyre changers and inflation running together.
  • Choose a screw compressor. It is designed for continuous operation, whereas a piston compressor needs rest periods between cycles.
  • Plan an adequate air receiver to absorb the demand peaks of impact wrenches. Our air receiver size calculator gives you a first estimate.
  • Check the pressure your tyre changers and truck tyre inflation require, and keep a margin for losses in the hoses.

Our models for tyre centres

  • Screw compressor 7.5 kW 4-in-1: the smaller tyre centre with a few fitting bays. Compressor, 420 L air receiver, refrigerated dryer and filtration on a single frame.
  • Screw compressor 11 kW 4-in-1: several car bays and a truck bay supplied at the same time.
  • Screw compressor 15 kW 4-in-1: the high-volume centre, or the site combining car, truck and retreading work.

With the 4-in-1 models, dry air reaches the bays: less water in impact wrenches, hoses and inflators, which means less wear and corrosion.

Extra capacity for the peak

If your compressor is enough for the rest of the year, there is no need to oversize it for a few weeks. In France, our compressor rental service delivers a machine within 24 hours, with no commitment and maintenance included: extra capacity for the season, returned afterwards.

Outside France, after-sales service is handled through local dealers and partners. Our spare parts are available for 15 years and stocked near Paris, France.

Frequently asked questions — Tyre centre

How should I size the compressor for a tyre centre?

Size it for the busiest week of the season, not for an average day. Count the impact wrenches, tyre changers and inflation points running at the same time at the height of the tyre changeover, add up their consumption and keep a margin. The configurator on our website does this calculation from your list of tools.

Do I need a bigger compressor for the winter tyre season?

Not necessarily. If your compressor is enough for the rest of the year, renting extra capacity for the peak can make more sense than an oversized machine. In France, AIRSTAHL rents out screw compressors from 5.5 to 37 kW, delivered within 24 hours, with no commitment and maintenance included.

Why a screw compressor rather than a piston compressor in a tyre centre?

During the season, fitting jobs follow one another without a break. A screw compressor is designed for continuous operation, whereas a piston compressor needs rest periods between cycles. The 4-in-1 models add a dryer and filtration, so dry air reaches impact wrenches and inflators.
