Air receiver size

The receiver stores air, absorbs demand peaks and stops the compressor from starting too often. Calculate the minimum volume for your machine.

How this is calculated

The volume uses the usual air receiver formula: V = 0.25 × Q × p₀ / (f × Δp), where Q is the compressor flow, p₀ atmospheric pressure, f the maximum number of cycles and Δp the difference between cut-out and cut-in pressure. The smaller the pressure band, or the fewer starts you allow, the bigger the receiver must be.

The default values are orders of magnitude: a piston compressor tolerates fewer starts per hour than a screw compressor. For a paint station or very irregular demand, choose a receiver larger than the minimum.
