Truck workshop
Compressor for truck workshops
11, 15 or 22 kW screw compressor for truck, coach and plant workshops - heavy tools, tyres, brake testing. 2-year warranty, technicians and dealers in the UK.
A truck workshop uses air like no other garage: high-capacity impact wrenches for truck wheels, removal of large tyres, brake circuit testing, blowing down assemblies. And often across several bays at once.
Sizing correctly for a truck workshop
In a truck workshop, it is simultaneous use that determines the size of the compressor: how many tools are running at the same time during the busiest hours? An undersized compressor lets the pressure drop just when the mechanics need it most.
That is why we recommend a screw compressor of 11 kW or more for truck workshops. Designed for continuous operation, it delivers steady air flow all day long.
What compressor power for a truck workshop?
- 11 kW: medium-sized workshop, a few bays in use simultaneously.
- 15 kW: high-activity workshop, or a fleet maintained in-house.
- 22 kW, permanent magnet motor, 10 bar: large workshop, fleet maintenance centre, high and continuous demand.
Each model can be completed with an air receiver and a dryer suited to your network. Send us your number of bays and a list of your tools: we will propose a configuration and a quote.
Availability first
For a fleet, every hour of downtime costs money. Our spare parts are available for 15 years, with stock in England, and service kits are ready for each model.

| Tool | Consumption | Typical number |
|---|---|---|
| 1" impact wrench (trucks) | ≈ 600 l/min | 2 |
| Truck tyre inflator | ≈ 150 l/min | 1 |
| Blow gun | ≈ 150 l/min | 2 |
| Tyre changer | ≈ 150 l/min | 1 |

Which air compressor for a truck workshop?
A screw compressor from 11 kW upwards, because a truck workshop runs air-hungry tools on several bays at the same time. Allow 11 kW for a medium-sized workshop, 15 kW for heavy activity, and the 22 kW permanent magnet, 10 bar, for a fleet maintenance centre. Each model is completed with an air receiver and dryer suited to the network.
What pressure do I need to inflate truck tyres?
Truck tyres are inflated to a higher pressure than car tyres: the truck tyre inflator works at around 9 bar in the configurator on our website. The exact pressure depends on the tyre and the load, according to the tyre manufacturer's data. Choose a compressor whose maximum pressure covers this requirement, such as the 22 kW, which goes up to 10 bar.
How much air does a 1 inch impact wrench use?
Around 600 l/min, roughly double a 1/2" impact wrench used in a car garage; check this on the tool's data sheet. It works in bursts, but when several mechanics remove wheels at the same time, the demand adds up. It is this simultaneous use that determines the compressor size for a truck workshop.
How do I size a compressor for a truck workshop with several bays?
List the tools used at the busiest times, not just your entire tool inventory: 1" impact wrenches, tyre changers, tyre inflators, blow guns. Add up their consumption for the number of mechanics working at the same time, then add a safety margin. The configurator on our website does this calculation, or send us your number of bays and your tool list for a quote.
Does a truck workshop need an air dryer?
It is recommended: condensation water corrodes pipework and damages tools, and the high air flows of a truck workshop produce a lot of condensate. A refrigerated dryer sized for the compressor's air flow protects the whole network. Also remember to drain the air receiver regularly, especially in a poorly heated workshop.
How do I avoid workshop downtime if the compressor breaks down?
Keep to the maintenance intervals and have the service kit for your model to hand: AIRSTAHL groups filters and wear parts under one part number per machine. Spare parts remain available for 15 years, with stock in our warehouse in England. For a workshop that cannot stop, two compressors in parallel let you keep working during a service.
