Compressor electricity cost

Over a compressor's life, electricity usually costs far more than the machine itself. Estimate what yours uses each year.

The price in your electricity contract, shown on your bill.

How this is calculated

The calculation multiplies motor power by the hours the compressor runs. Loaded, it produces air and draws full power. Unloaded, a screw compressor idles and still draws roughly a quarter of its power (a common order of magnitude); a piston compressor stops. The result is an estimate: motor efficiency, set pressure and the machine's condition all change real consumption.

To cut the bill: fix leaks, set pressure to what is actually needed, switch the compressor off outside working hours, and choose a machine matched to real demand.
